Not in Kansas Anymore...

Today I'll share with you two interesting customs of Peru.

1) When they greet each other, they kiss each other's cheeks. Although many times it's more like putting cheeks together and kissing the air with your lips. Females do this with females, as well as females and males...but males simply shake hands with other males. And they do this every time they meet someone or see someone they know. They do it for hello and goodbye. So even if someone stays for two minutes, they get a kiss hello and a kiss goodbye. Even though it's different, it's very welcoming.

2) In Peru, the septic pipes are small. So only bodily waste can go down them. This means that toilet paper cannot. So each toilet has a small waste basket next to it for toilet paper. Needless to say, it's a little hard to get used to. It's also a little gross. Sometimes you just have to close your eyes and throw it in!

Here are a couple of pictures from our bus city tour of Lima yesterday...
