This is my last post from my semester in Peru.
I know I completely neglected my blog for the past month. It just became overwhelming. I had so much to write about, and it became easier to just not write anything at all.
I took an incredible trip to the Amazon jungle. It was unlike anything I've ever seen. We stayed in an eco lodge in the middle of the jungle, visited some local people, tried some odd jungle drinks, fished for piranhas, held some monkeys. It was probably my favorite weekend of the semester.
The weekend after that, we went to Huancayo, a town in the Andes. We went on a day-long trek and saw some incredible views in the mountains.
Then it was Machu Picchu--finally! That whole weekend was also unbelievable. Machu Picchu IS as cool as everyone says it is. It is such a wonder. We even got to climb Huanya Picchu (the mountain you see in all the photos of Machu Picchu). What an adventure!
I spent the last couple weeks in Lima, doing all the things that were left to do. I feel good about what I've seen here, the people I've met, and the experiences I've had. No, I feel better than good. I feel totally and completely blessed.
I will miss it here. I'll miss my host family. They were such a blessing...I couldn't have asked for a better living situation. I'll miss the big city and all it has to offer. I'll miss this incredible country. I'll miss the food...
But there are things I won't miss, too. And I'm really looking forward to coming home. But I have no doubt in my mind that I'll be back to visit someday.
